Hello!

We're the faces behind Bareback Botanicals (formerly Buzz Balms) - Hilda and Cal, a couple in sunny Queensland, Australia. She was an Environmental Scientist and he a Sunshine Coast Cowboy turned Beekeeper.

With Cal's beeswax (and free labour), Hilda started and grew Buzz Balms to the brand it is today! We're so excited for you to be here and have a read about the journey our little business has undergone!

Fast forward past the bar where girl meets boy and wedding bells, to a fridge full of beeswax from Cal's bees at Honey Buzz Apiary.

Add in the cheeky chestnut, appropriately named Blaze, experiencing reoccurring abscesses for months and BB's first product the Hoof Hydrator was created.

After researching the amazing properties of beeswax and little success using various other products, Hilda set about making the beeswax based hoof balm... and it worked!

After creating the Hoof Hydrator, the Buzz Balms journey had just begun. Frustrated with the amount of plastic packaging and imported products available to Equestrians, Hilda set about bee-ing the change she wished to see and so Buzz Balms was born.

We aim to create all natural beeswax products for the Environmentally Conscious Equestrian. The range quickly expanded to include a Leather Balm, Braiding Balms, Bit Butter and even locally sourced Shampoo Bars and more!

Cal started beekeeping at the early age of 13 under the guidance of two commercial beekeepers. His buzzing enthusiasm for the bees and their honey is what lead to the name of Honey Buzz Apiary.

After completing two trades he found his passion remained in beekeeping and he has continued to expand his hives. It's pretty unique to produce the beeswax balms on the same site the wax is harvested!

As BB has continued to grow, so too has the demand for beeswax. We now also source beeswax from other local beekeepers in addition to the wax we produce at home.
